Du Wenjin saw that Chunmei’s mother looked like she was going to keep on pestering endlessly so he said imposingly, “Even if this news has spread through the village, we still need to make sure it doesn’t spread to other villages. Having Chunmei find a husband in the neighboring villages is all the same!”

“What are you guys doing here!?” Du Wenjin asked when he walked out the door and saw all the villagers who were listening in on the ruckus.
One of the villagers smiled and said, “We aren’t doing anything, just getting ready to chop the bamboo. Did Chunmei really set a trap for the fourth brother of the Ye family?”
When Du Wenjin heard him, he said to them, “Don’t mention or discuss this topic anymore. If I catch anyone talking about this then get prepared to pay a few more packs of grain as tax this year!”
He already made himself clear so the villagers naturally understood. They all nodded to show they wouldn’t talk about this anymore.
The village chief had already left but the mother and daughter pair still didn’t have enough self-awareness to leave on their own. Ye Mo chased them out and said, “Are the two of you still not going to get out. Do you want me to beat you guys up before you leave?!”

The villagers who were there to join in the ruckus saw Li Chunmei run out while crying. They all looked at each other and then left.
