Frankly, this city was worthy of being called a traditional Tier-1 Great Country even amongst the Five Big Vassal Countries. Even if it was small and remote, the city’s prosperity was sufficient enough to rival many of the large or medium-sized cities in Nan Xia Country.
Once they entered Ling Xi City, Ling Chuxi eagerly stopped passersby to ask about the whereabouts of Rejuvenation Valley. But she only got a series of the same answer—”I don’t know.”
Thus, Ling Chuxi became even more anxious and stopped a few more passersby to ask yet again. But alas, their answers were all still the same. Each one of them replied with, “I don’t know.”
“Mu Liufeng, would you have died if you said just a little more?” cursed Ling Chuxi. She was so mad that she wished to strike Mu Liufeng dead. She had heard him talking about this place so surely at the time and therefore had thought they would be able to find Rejuvenation Valley easily once they reached Ling Xi City. But looking at things now, she feared they wouldn’t be able to locate Rejuvenation Valley even if they asked the whole city about it.
“If I had known it would be like this earlier on, I would have gone to Feng Yan Union before we left the city to get some information,” said Ling Chuxi regretfully in the midst of her angry and depressed feelings. But they were already at Ling Xi City and there was also no time left to go looking for Feng Yan Union. Actually, even if they had found Feng Yan Union, they might not necessarily be able to find Rejuvenation Valley anyway. If the Crisis Reverse Pill was so easy to find, it would not be so rare, would it?
“Chuxi, let’s look for a place to rest first. We still have some time,” urged Ling Yichen. Looking at Ling Chuxi’s tired face and worried expression, Ling Yichen felt quite aggrieved and could not resist trying to persuade her to take a break.
She had not slept well the past few days, nor had she eaten a proper meal and she was constantly full of worry. Even if one was in the realm of Great Fulfilment, it was not a given that one could continue on like this.
“Yichen, you must be tired too. Go rest first. I will continue to think of a way to find Rejuvenation Valley,” said Ling Chuxi firmly.
“Chuxi, I know what you are thinking. You’re blaming yourself and feeling guilty, right?” said Ling Yichen in an accentuated tone.
“Yes, what you have said is correct. I had long guessed that the Deity Temple was the one instigating trouble, and I should not have waited for the Ling Family to send the medicine over. If I had gone to meet Second Elder personally, all this practically would not have happened.” As Ling Chuxi spoke, another tinge of pain pricked at her heart.
“Even though you guessed that it was the Deity Temple, what could you have done even if you went? Would they have struck later on or changed their method? Some things are just fates that can’t be changed.” Ling Yichen looked into Ling Chuxi’s eyes and continued on, “You are not the only one feeling this way. Me, Senior Brother, everyone in the Ling Family also feels the same. You are not the only one feeling guilty. Senior Brother feels even guiltier than you and that was why he made such a promise before we left. Perhaps you don’t know it, but I know very clearly that with his character, it would have been very difficult for him to make such a lingering promise.” For a person that did not seek fame or wealth and did not have any regard for the position of emperor, Fu Chengyu had made a lifetime promise to a family clan. It was a difficult thing indeed.
“Chuxi, if you become a mess and have a breakdown, not only can you not save Second Elder, but you will also let everyone else down. And you will cause us all to blame ourselves all the more for the rest of our lives,” concluded Ling Yichen.
Ling Chuxi looked at Ling Yichen and saw the worry and concern in his eyes. The anxiety and uneasiness in her own heart calmed down. Everything Ling Yichen said was right. She was not the only one feeling self-blame and guilt. Second Elder, the Ling Family, Fu Chengyu and the rest were still awaiting good news from her. If she continued to be so impatient, not only would she not solve anything, but she would only make matters even worse. She would only bring back disappointment and regret to everyone and probably even put a lifetime of self-blame and guilt upon them.
“Okay, let’s go. We shall first look for a place to eat, then have a good rest, and then we will go our separate ways to try and locate Rejuvenation Valley,” said Ling Chuxi in reply to Ling Yichen with calmed down emotions.
Ling Yichen smiled. Now, this was the Ling Chuxi he was familiar with, a Ling Chuxi who was able to regain her calmness and composure quickly despite adversities.
