When she returned to her seat after leaving his office, she could no longer focus on her work.

She stared at her computer screen blankly. All she could think of was meeting the man’s parents.

“Why? Did something happen at home again?” asked He Yan in surprise.

Making use of the excuse the other had provided, she simply nodded her head.

“Something like that.” Except that I’m the person in trouble this time.

“Sigh… Looks like you won’t be getting much in terms of pay this month. What exactly happened—” Lu Huiya interrupted her just as she was about to ask further.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Taking a leave again? Why don’t you just quit?”

Lifting a brow, Pei Ge smirked. “That’s rich coming from someone who stays in the office the whole day doing nothing.”

“You!” Being verbally cornered, Lu Huiya could only glare hatefully at her.

“Forget it; forget it. Sister Huiya, let’s stop fighting since we are all colleagues. Why don’t we just go have lunch?” Wang Ningning convinced Lu Huiya who was next to her as she smiled apologetically at Pei Ge.

Pei Ge’s expression softened at her apologetic look.

“Hmph! Ningning, let’s go!” Lu Huiya harrumphed and dragged her out of the office by the hand.

By the time the two vanished from their sight, He Yan had already forgotten what she wanted to ask Pei Ge.

She moved to say something else but someone else intruded into their office.

“Sister Pei Ge, you’re finally back to work!”

A bright smile blossomed on Pei Ge’s face when she spotted Qin Qitong running over with an equally bright smile on her face.

“That’s right, Qitong.” She nodded.

“Sister Pei Ge, I’ve missed you to death!”

He Yan could only smile politely and excuse herself from the two’s passionate reunion.

After her departure, Qin Qitong happily dragged Pei Ge out for lunch.

When they passed by the man’s office, and Pei Ge saw the tightly shut door, she felt quite perplexed inside.

That annoying fellow is still in there, right? Why isn’t he leaving yet?

“Sister Pei Ge, what are you looking at?” At the lack of response from Pei Ge, the incessantly chattering Qin Qitong turned to face her and saw that the other was not even looking in her direction.

“Nothing in particular.” Pei Ge looked at her and shook her head wryly.

“Let’s hurry and have lunch, then! I’m starving!”

The two quickly exited the CEO Secretariat, and the lively office instantly turned desolate.

What the two failed to notice was that, inside the CEO’s office and right behind the window blinds, stood a CEO that was emitting frigid air.

As the man watched the woman be dragged away by his cousin, his face turned a terrifying shade of black.

That d*mn woman actually went out for lunch with someone else! Doesn’t she know that I’m still here?!

This was the first time he had actually felt that letting his cousin work here was a bad idea. In fact, her presence stung his eyes!

“Achoo!” Qin Qitong suddenly sneezed loudly just as they entered the restaurant she had made a lunch reservation.

Casually wiping her nose, she smilingly mumbled, “Someone must be missing me! He he he!”

At her carefree attitude, Pei Ge teased, “It may also be someone badmouthing you.”

“Tsk! This lady here is beautiful and lovable; who can bear to badmouth me?” She grinned.

“Narcissist!”

The two walked into the private room Qin Qitong had reserved amid their laughter.

Pei Ge immediately spotted Pan Xinlei and Bi Zheng the moment the doors opened.

“Ge Ge, you’re finally here. If you come any later, I think I will have already starved to death.” Pan Xinlei affectionately said this when she spotted Pei Ge.

Pei Ge responded to her teasing with an enthusiastic greeting.

“Sister Xinlei!”

“Did you finish settling all your stuff at home?” Pan Xinlei asked softly.

“Yes, I did. You don’t know how much more relaxed I feel now.” Saying this, she took a seat beside her.

“I think you should go back to that lousy hospital to ask for compensation! To diagnose a perfectly healthy person with a nearly incurable disease, what irresponsible people they are! Seriously!” she complained unhappily.

Qin Qitong, who was seated beside Bi Zheng, nodded agreeingly. “That’s right! What kind of hospital is that? Carelessly saying that auntie has gastric cancer, if only they know of the fear you guys have been under for so many days.”

As the two ladies took turns disparaging the hospital, the waiter served their ordered dishes.

“All your orders are here.”

“Thank you.”

Once the waiter left the room and closed the door, the four of them started digging in.

“Ge Ge, don’t be a softie. You must go and make that hospital compensate your family for emotional and financial damages.” Pan Xinlei restarted the conversation after downing a bowl of soup.

“Yes, Sister Pei Ge. I’ll accompany you there if you want!” Qin Qitong urged.

Even the taciturn Bi Zheng also spoke his mind. “I can help you put up a post online.”

Pei Ge’s heart warmed at their encouraging words. The truth was one did not need many friends; a few sincere ones were more than enough.

The best thing that has ever happened to me after coming to Chenguang is not the high salary but… meeting these few loyal friends, instead.
