1143 Accidental Fall
Qiao Mei obediently finished the porridge but she did not eat much of the side dishes. She really did not have much of an appetite.
“Where’s Shen Gui? Isn’t he supposed to come and clean up the courtyard today? Why aren’t you checking on him?” Qiao Mei asked.
Wei Hao was the one supervising Shen Gui as he cleaned up the backyard. Feng Hua’s current task was to take care of Qiao Mei wholeheartedly. This was what Xia Wen had instructed her to do. Feng Hua did not have to care about any other matters at home now and her only focus was to take care of Qiao Mei. She had to stay by Qiao Mei’s side 24 hours a day. If there were any abnormalities, she had to inform Xu Lan immediately. She must not allow anything to go wrong.
Although Qiao Mei could understand why everyone wanted Feng Hua to take care of her, she was already an adult and could take good care of herself. There was no need for them to go to such an extent.
There was still no news from Xia Wen by the afternoon. Qiao Mei walked up and down the long corridor out of frustration. As she walked, she kept looking in the direction of the main door. She would stop and stare whenever there were passersby. When it became clear that it was not Xia Wen and the others, she continued to pace the long corridor disappointedly.
Qiao Mei had sent Feng Hua to the kitchen to get some pastries. She felt very uncomfortable having Feng Hua follow so closely behind her.
“Miss Qiao,” Shen Gui suddenly appeared beside Qiao Mei and spoke to her.
“Huh? Oh, you’re back? That should mean the courtyard is already tidied up,” Qiao Mei said in a gentle manner.
“Yes, I’m all done. I have also trimmed the asparagus fern in the study and it looks very nice now. Let’s go and take a look at it together.” Shen Gui’s eyes looked shiny as he spoke.
Qiao Mei thought that Shen Gui had such a look in his eyes when he talked about plants because he really liked them, so she agreed to his request.
Just as Qiao Mei turned around, Shen Gui suddenly rushed forward and slammed into her.
“Ah!!!”
She fell towards the pillar at the side and her stomach hit the railing forcefully. She was in so much pain that she could not make a sound and could only sit on the ground while holding her stomach.
When Shen Gui saw that he had succeeded, he quickly ran towards the main door. Feng Hua did not even try to stop him. It was more important to check on Qiao Mei first. She had run over when she heard the sound and the sight of Qiao Mei shocked her so much that she dropped the plate in her hand and quickly rushed towards Qiao Mei.
“Qiao Mei! Qiao Mei, wake up! Qiao Mei, hang in there! Somebody, help!” Feng Hua hurriedly went to the backyard to get help. When Qiao Qiang and Li Gui heard that something had happened, they quickly ran to the front yard. Li Gui instructed Zhang Wei to take care of his younger siblings and told them not to run around.
Given the urgency of the matter, Feng Hua asked Li Gui and Qiao Qiang to stay by Qiao Mei’s side while she went out to call the hospital to send an ambulance. At the same time, she also informed Xu Lan to go to the hospital immediately to prepare them for Qiao Mei’s delivery.
The whole house was in a mess and there was no time to find out the reason for Qiao Mei’s fall. Everyone surrounded Qiao Mei and did not even dare to breathe too loudly.
Feng Hua quickly brought over a blanket and wrapped it around Qiao Mei. She said to Li Gui, “Sister Li! Wrap the blanket tightly around Qiao Mei. I’m going to the door to direct the ambulance when it’s here. Come and get me immediately if there’s anything unusual!”
Li Gui hugged Qiao Mei according to Feng Hua’s instructions. Feng Hua ran all the way to the entrance of the alley and waited anxiously for the ambulance to arrive. As soon as she caught sight of it, she immediately waved her hands and asked them to hurry.
Two male doctors carried a stretcher and rushed to Qiao Mei’s side, transporting her into the ambulance safely. Li Gui and Qiao Qiang followed them to the hospital while Feng Hua stayed at home to settle the outstanding matters. After she was done, she would meet them at the hospital.
Along the way, Li Gui held Qiao Mei’s hand tightly, very scared that something bad would happen. She had thought that there were still a few more days to go, but she did not expect this sudden accident to happen.
“Mom… Mom… Grandfather…” Qiao Mei called out groggily.
“Aye! Grandfather is here! Mei Mei, don’t be afraid! Grandfather will always be here! Mei Mei, do you hear me! Grandfather is here!” Qiao Qiang looked at Qiao Mei with tears in his eyes. His hands were trembling and he did not dare to use too much strength as he held her hand, worried that he would hurt her.
Li Gui could not stop crying as she called out Qiao Mei’s name over and over again.
The ambulance sped all the way to the hospital. Xia Fang was already waiting at the door. Fortunately, she did not have any surgery today which meant that she could deliver Qiao Mei’s babies herself.
The moment Qiao Mei was pushed into the operating theater, Qiao Qiang lost his composure. He slumped to the floor weakly and stared at the bright red operating theater sign without moving.
