Chapter 1005: He Didn’t Take Advantage of the Situation (9)

“Is it someone close to us?” Qin Chu asked, but he already had a person in mind.

Gao Ran shook his head. “You are probably not thinking of the right person. He was one of your father’s competitors back when your father was still at GK. His name is Wang Kun and he was exposed for bribing high custom officials. He then took all his money and ran to Australia, and he has been on the run for almost three years now. Rumor has it that he recently came back to the country, but he didn’t come back to C city. I can’t imagine how Zhou Guanghui got ahold of him and was in turn used by him to direct this entire scheme.”

“Zhou Guanghui told you all that?” Qin Chu asked. He didn’t think that he could trust anything that came out of her mouth.

Gao Ran shook his head again. “No, she didn’t say anything. There’s nothing but revenge in her mind, and all she ever talks about is killing you and your family. She’s going a little crazy up here,” Gao Ran tapped his fingers against his temple and continued, “The kidnappers spilled everything. Also, that guy with a scar on his face has a long criminal record. He killed a family of five previously and had been on the run for over a year. He somehow met Wang Kun, took his money, and came back to C city with Zhou Guanghui to kidnap Huo Mian.”

Qin Chu nodded in silence.

“Did you guys catch Wang Kun yet?”

“No, he’s very discreet, so he’s not an easy catch. We also couldn’t confirm if he’s still in the country.” Gao Ran sighed and shook his head some more.

“If Zhou Guanghui is deemed as insane, does that mean she doesn’t need to go to jail?” Huo Mian was not resigned to the idea of letting her lose. There was no death penalty for criminals with mental illness, so she couldn’t stand the idea of letting her walk away freely.

After all, Qin Chu was shot in the chest and almost died.

Gao Ran shook his head some more, as if he were a bobblehead. “Don’t worry. We’ll know if she’s pretending, but even if she is crazy, we will rig the test. We’ll make sure she is sentenced to death. I’ve been Qin Chu’s bro for years, I’ll avenge him.”

“But I do think something is really weird,” Gao Ran said suddenly.

“What?” Qin Chu looked at him, confused.

“Everyone involved in this incident, including Zhou Guanghui, had been attacked in prison. They have all been beaten up badly. Someone must have told the inmates to do so, I wonder whose idea it was?” Gao Ran pondered to himself.

“Could it be Su Yu?” Huo Mian asked directly.

“I don’t think so. If he was going to do anything, he would probably have them killed already. With his temper, he wouldn’t just give them a good beating.”

“Who else would avenge us?” Huo Mian asked, confused.

“Forget this for now, we’re not in a rush.” On the contrary, Qin Chu wasn’t interested in finding out who was behind it.

“Sure. Don’t worry about things at the Municipal Bureau, I got you.” Gao Ran gave Qin Chu a pat on the back and comforted him.

After a while, and after free-loading a meal, Gao Ran finally left, and Huo Mian had the chance to feed Qin Chu some congee.

“Honey, open wide, ah.”

“I’m your husband, not your son. You don’t have to do this. It’s rather terrifying.” Qin Chu smiled as he watched Huo Mian take care of him like a baby.

Right this moment, Mr. and Mrs. Qin walked in with Song Yishi. However, Huo Mian couldn’t care less and continued feeding Qin Chu congee, one bite after another. Qin Chu, on the other hand, cooperated silently.

“Ahem,” Mrs. Qin coughed drily at the door, as if she were reminding Huo Mian that they were there.

“Dad, Mom,” Qin Chu said first.

“Chu, how are you feeling?” Mr. and Mrs. Qin walked in.

Huo Mian put down the bowl of congee on the counter and turned around to leave. She knew Mr. and Mrs. Qin didn’t like her. But it was fine since she didn’t like them either.

Right when Huo Mian reached the door, Song Yishi’s voice floated in, “Huo Mian, thank you for your hard work these days.”

Huo Mian stopped dead in her tracks, furrowed her brows, and stared back at Song Yishi.
